Hockinson hangs for win over Tacoma Baptist

Quarterback Justin Anderson, playing in place of the injured Jesse Krahn, threw three touchdowns passes to Bo Sparks as Hockinson held off Tacoma Baptist 34-26 on Saturday in University Place.

Anderson completed 6 of 13 passes for 119 yards, including three passes for 86 yards to Sparks for touchdowns.

Hockinson took a 27-20 halftime lead and widened its margin to 34-20 with a 22-yard touchdown reception by Sparks.

The offense stalled after that until the Hawks (2-1) took over on downs with about five minutes to play in the game.

Hockinson drove 70 yards to burn the clock down before taking a knee to seal the game.

Torey Dunn had 134 yards rushing on 15 carries and Josiah Niemela added 110 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown.

“We ran the ball really well,” Hockinson coach Rick Steele said. “And when we needed to, Justin did a great job throwing the ball. … For him to come in and start with just a week’s worth of practice was great.”

Krahn suffered a concussion in last week’s loss to Prairie. He may not be able to return by next week’s game against Columbia River.
