WASHOUGAL — Anglers can fish closer to the adult fish weir on the Washougal River beginning Saturday.
State officials have reduced the closure from 400 feet downstream of the weir to 200 feet.
A large run of hatchery-origin fall chinook is returning to the Washougal River. Anglers are allowed to keep fin-clipped hatchery chinook, but must release wild chinook.
The waters downstream of the weir are holding a large number of hatchery chinook. The rule change is expected to increase the sport catch and reduce the number of hatchery chinook being trapped and removed.
