Skyview was able to set its cruise control after the first half game against Heritage Friday night at McKenzie Stadium.

Coach Steve Kizer said this type of a large margin victory was exactly what the Storm (1-2) needed after a grueling trip and loss in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

“We have gone through a tough couple of weeks.” Kizer said. “We aren’t done yet, but we need to continue to improve, but it’s great to get this first win under our belt.”

Skyview’s Parker Henry enforced the tempo of the game by scoring off of an interception he caught in the first minute and a half of the game. He then changed over to the offensive side of things for the Storm and rushed for touchdowns on Skyview’s next three possessions.

“That interception was a great way to start out our game with some momentum,” Henry said. “As for the rest of the night, the offensive line was really awesome tonight, helping us to create some great holes.”

Henry finished the game with 202 yards on 13 carries.

“If you’re blocking for (Henry) then you better block as hard as you can cause he is going to give it his all every time,” lineman Garrett Lawler said. “It just kind of motivates us on the line, because we see him working hard and we want to do the same.”

Heritage starting quarterback Joey Cooper went down with a possible ankle injury in the beginning of the first half. Sophomore Loren Standiford stepped in and completed 15 of 25 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown pass to Nate Jenkins.

“I thought (Standiford) made some great plays,” Kizer said. “We had some pressure on him throughout the night, but he was still able to move the ball on us. Hats off to him.”

Skyview quarterback Jordan Berni, playing in place of the injured Kieran McDonagh, added to the game with two touchdown passes during the second quarter.

“Everyone really put it all on the line tonight, from our stellar defense, to our strong offensive line and to (Henry),” said Berni, who went 6 for 9 for 121 yards. “All those guys made my job a lot easier tonight.”
