Columbia Way — The Ray Hickey Foundation contributed $20,000 to the Team Gaffney Swim and Cruise for the Kids event Aug. 27. At the event, a group of 20 dedicated open-water swimmers leapt into the Columbia River at the I-205 bridge and swam 6 miles downriver to the Interstate 5 Bridge. The team was led by Karen Gaffney, 33, who has Down syndrome and is an advocate for people with disabilities. The event raised more than $75,000 for the aquatic therapy program at the Providence Center for Medically Fragile Children. The Ray Hickey Foundation is housed on Southeast Columbia Way.
