The duty, honor and sacrifice of the emergency personnel killed during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington D.C. were honored Sunday morning in Camas.
Camas Fire Department engines blocked off Northeast Fourth Avenue, between Everett and Franklin streets for the morning event held at the Camas Public Library.
Camas Interim EMS Capt. Cliff Free spoke during the event. He recognized the 418 firefighters and police officers who died as a result of the terrorist attacks that day.
“They knew only of their duty,” he said of the fallen heros. “Their duty to place the suffering of others above that of their own.”
