Columbia River 40, Kelso 12
Remick Kawawaki rush for 165 yards and two touchdowns and Darius Raiford rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns as Columbia River rolled to a Class 3A Greater St. Helens League win.
“Our running game was really effective,” Columbia River coach John O’Rourke said. “We didn’t get as many plays as we would have like, but we got a lot of yards with a lot of long runs. We were really pleased to be able to rush for that many yards.”
Kawawaki had a 56-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and added a 28-yard TD in the second quarter. Raiford had TD runs of 38 and 60 yards in the second quarter as the Chieftains built a 33-0 halftime lead.
“We played really well on defense,” O’Rourke said. “We really controlled their running game and forced them to pass, which isn’t Kelso’s game.”
Brothers Rayvon and Rayshawn Wess had six tackles each, as did Dillion Willis, as River forced two turnovers from the Hilanders.
