No arrests have been made in Sunday morning’s suspected gang shooting on Hayden Island, a Portland police officer said Sunday afternoon.

At 2:43 a.m. Sunday, Portland police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 11900 block of North Center Avenue, on Hayden Island, just across the Columbia River from downtown Vancouver.

Officers were told that someone had been shot and left the area in a red SUV. Later, it was learned the gunshot victim had arrived at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

The 36-year-old man suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg, said Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau.

The victim’s name was not released, but Simpson said it appeared to be a gang shooting.

“The victim is known to investigators on both sides of the river,” Simpson said.

Gang investigators from the Vancouver Police Department and the Portland bureau are investigating.
