Washougal — The Vancouver Pops Orchestra went the extra mile to give the Mt. Pleasant School a concert on Oct. 4. The school, with a student body of around 50, is located on the north side of Highway 14 with a beautiful view of the Columbia River.

Bert Coffman, orchestra director, said it felt as if they were in a setting that reflected “Little House on the Prairie.”

The school is outside the boundaries of the orchestra’s normal concert schedule, but the musicians wanted to do something special for the students.

The experience was filled with joy, inspiration and an inspiring spirit from the students and teachers, Coffman said.

After the 45 minute concert, the students visited with the Pops to explore the instruments, practice conducting and thank the band members. The Pops will never forget the smiles on the students faces, Coffman said.
