Skyview kept flying high. Evergreen kept playing hard despite long odds on Friday at McKenzie Stadium.

But the outcome was as anticipated. The Storm scored seven touchdowns over 15 first-half minutes in the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League football win.

Reilley Henderson scored three first-half touchdowns, jump-starting Skyview with a pair of 48-yard scampers barely two minutes apart in the first quarter. The first was on a well-blocked punt return, the second on a well-blocked screen pass.

The most memorable play was Henderson’s third touchdown, a leaping one-handed grab at the goal line that made the score 28-2.

Skyview (5-2, 3-0 GSHL) outgained Evergreen 307-122, including a 224-4 advantage on the way to a 51-2 halftime lead.

Parker Henry, the area’s rushing leader, finished with 70 yards on only seven carries. He scored twice, once on a short run and once on a 32-yard screen pass.

Skyview quarterback Kieran McDonagh completed 8 of 10 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns. McDonagh rested after leading the final TD drive on the opening possession of the second half.

Evergreen led 2-0 after Skyview’s first snap of the game was too high for McDonagh and went through the end zone for a safety.

The offensive highlight for Evergreen (0-7, 0-3) was a 75-yard pass play, with freshman quarterback Kolbey Eaton throwing out of his own end zone and finding Trent Foster behind the defense. That play keyed a 96-yard touchdown drive capped on a 10-yard run by Romon Ortiz in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

Eaton played his second consecutive game in place of injured junior Anthony Thomas.

Justin Straup carried 17 times for 63 yards to lead the Plainsmen on the ground.

The second half was played with a running clock. There was a 20-minute delay in the third quarter when Evergreen lineman Robert Ahloo suffered a leg injury.
