CAMAS — Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, a host of people including teenage actors, a slew of firefighters and police, and Life Flight and U.S. Coast Guard helicopter pilots will play out a disaster drill that portrays a chemical leak that exposes 20 to 30 teenage “victims.”

Being held at the Port of Camas-Washougal, the drill will involve 23 organizations ranging from Kemira, a chemical group headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, to BNSF Railway, Clark County Emergency Management and firefighters and police from several departments in Clark and Skamania counties.

After the teens are exposed, they will be decontaminated and receive medical care, and a regional Hazardous Materials team will deal with the leak itself. The helicopters will be there for medical transport, according to a bulletin from Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency.

Also participating will be 911 dispatchers, Red Cross, ham radio operators, Silver Star Search & Rescue, Georgia-Pacific, Clark College and more.

The purpose of the exercise is to see how well the different agencies work together and see where improvement is needed.

The public is welcome to observe, and should park at Captain William Clark Park, in Washougal, south of state Highway 14 along the Columbia River. It should be over by noon, the bulletin said.
