Jesse McChesney of Vancouver finished third overall in Sunday’s Portland Marathon.
The 23-year-old covered the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 31 minutes and 35 seconds.
McChesney finished four minutes behind winner Ian Nurse of Portland. Nurse, 33, finished in 2:27:38. Nurse and McChesney are both past winners of the Vancouver Lake Half Marathon.
Four runners from Clark County were among the first 100 finishers.
Micah Rice of Vancouver, with a time of 2:54:25, was the 38th finisher. Rice, 34, is the News Editor at The Columbian.
Dan Reed from Camas, 40, finished 63rd with a time of 2:58.16.
David Caldwell, 36, of Vancouver finished 99th in 3:01:17. Mansik Min of Vancouver just missed a top-100 finish with his time of 3:01:57.
Tiffany Klopman from Camas was the fastest female from Clark County, finishing in 3:12:43. The 31-year-old was the 20th woman to finish.
The women’s champion was Marci Klimick from Bend, Ore. The 24-year-old finished 21st overall in 2:46:27.
A total of almost 7,400 runners and walkers completed the 40th edition of the Portland Marathon.
Jenny Teppo of Vancouver was the female winner of the Downhill Dash, a new 10-kilometer race affiliated with the Portland Marathon. Teppo, 52, finished in 42 minutes and 12 seconds.
Dave Cummings, 31, of Vancouver took seventh place among 195 10K finishers. His time was 38:46.
David Gilmer of Vancouver finished 18th in the half marathon affiliated with the Portland Marathon. His time for the 13.1-mile race was 1:28:55.

Softball reunion scheduled Oct. 22
Anyone who played fastpitch or slowpitch softball in Clark County prior to 1980 is invited to a Boys of Summer reunion on Oct. 22 at Chronis Bar and Grill in downtown Vancouver.
The gathering begins at 3 p.m.
Organizers hope this event can be a first step toward creating a softball hall of fame in Clark County. Softball has a rich history in the county, and plans to form a hall of fame grew out of discussions about how to preserve that history, according to Gerry Murray, one of the organizers for the Boys of Summer gathering.
One example of that history is the Lucky Lager team that won the Washington state fastpitch championship in 1968. Tom Wallenborn, who played shortstop for that team, remembers falling behind 4-0 in the first inning of the state championship game before rallying to win 7-5 — an unlikely feat in a sport known for dominant pitching.
Fastpitch was popular during the 1950s and 1960s, often drawing crowds of spectators to area parks, Wallenborn recalled. Slowpitch softball gained popularity starting in the early 1970s and eventually replaced the fastpitch game as the most popular summer game for area athletes.
Murray said organizers are encouraging anyone who played softball in this area to attend the reunion, and to spread the word about this event.

Area shooters on target at state meet
Chris Cottrell, 17, took fourth place in the expert class at the Washington State Conventional Prone Championship shooting competition in September. He was one of seven small-bore shooters from the Vancouver Rifle and Pistol Club who competed in the state championship event at the Tacoma Rifle and Pistol Club.
Cottrell’s final score was 3142.132, meaning he had 3,142 points and had 132 center shots. The scores were based on the two-day aggregate score out of 3,200 possible points.
Spencer Frasier, 16, won the sharpshooter class with a score of 3162.156. The top four shooters in that competition were from the Vancouver club.
Kyle Ueltschi, 14, placed second with a score of 3155.162. Chad Bowen, 21, placed third with a score of 3146.140. Jamie Carlson, 16, placed fourth with a score of 3144.149. Also, Joe Spitzer, 30, placed 15th with a score of 3051.066.
In the marksmen class, Tristen Higgins, 14, placed third, with a score of 3089.098.
The Vancouver Rifle and Pistol Club’s Junior program meets 4-6 p.m. each Tuesday. More information is available by visiting www.vrpc.us.
Girlfriends Half Marathon is Sunday
A field of 3,200 women will run and walk 13.1 miles at 9 a.m. on Sunday in Vancouver to support the Susan G Komen for the Cure Foundation.
The fifth-annual Girlfriends Half Marathon is full. Live music and a free wellness fair will take place near the finish line. The event is staged by Northwest Personal Training, and the race starts and finishes at 1011 Broadway.
