Three people were injured in a Monday night crash on Northeast 58th Street in the Proebstel area, officials said.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. near the intersection of 58th Street and Northeast 217th Avenue.

A 2006 Ford pickup truck driven by John Taffin, 48, of Vancouver stopped on the road, started to back into a private driveway and got stuck in a culvert, which caused the front of the truck to block the eastbound lane, a Washington State Patrol bulletin said.

According to the bulletin, Taffin’s passenger, Theresa Taffin, 48, got out of the truck and fell into the culvert. Then a 1992 Chrysler LeBaron driven by Gary Peterson, 71, of Vancouver ran into the front of the pickup truck, the truck then hit Theresa Taffin and came to a rest in the private driveway.

The LeBaron ended up blocking both the east and west lanes of 58th Street, the state patrol said.

John Taffin reported a sore left side, sore neck and facial abrasions. Theresa Taffin reported a sore left leg, hips and shoulders. Peterson reported a sore chest and facial abrasions, WSP said.

All three were transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. They were treated and released, hospital spokesman Ken Cole said Tuesday.
