A bathroom fan caught fire and fell from the ceiling onto a toilet, where an alert tenant was able to extinguish what remained of the fire, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

The fire was reported at 10:22 p.m. at 4821 N.E. 54th St., a ranch-style home in the East Minnehaha neighborhood. It is owned, according to county records, by Jerome Rossie of Stockton, Calif.

Vancouver firefighters arrived to find the fire out, but checked the attic for a possible extension of the fire, and then used their own fan to remove smoke from the residence.
