Prep football: Skyview routs Battle Ground

Parker Henry put up some huge numbers.

So did Forrest Russell. And Reiley Henderson. Oh, and quarterback Kieran McDonagh, too.

Heck, even the 2006 Skyview Storm who were honored at halftime would have scored if they were allowed to play.

By the end, the Storm scored 11 touchdowns in a 76-0 victory over Battle Ground in a Class 4A Greater St. Helens League football game at Kiggins Bowl.

That’s four wins in a row for the defending league champion Storm (4-2, 2-0 GSHL).

“We changed our tempo in practice,” Skyview coach Steve Kizer said. “We’re practicing better. We know what it takes now. The kids are working harder in practice, and it’s showing in the games.”

Henry rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Russell caught a 75-yard TD pass from McDonagh and returned a punt 80 yards for a score. Henderson ran one in from 43 yards out and caught a TD pass.

McDonagh was 11 for 16 for 196 yards and three touchdowns in a half of passing.

The Storm led 55-0 at the break, then added three touchdowns during the running clock featured in the second half.

“I’m not going to complain or gripe,” Battle Ground coach Larry Peck said. “They’re that good. And they had some young kids score at the end.”

Ian Humphrey threw for 79 yards and Tyler Bergeron rushed for 55 for Battle Ground (4-2, 1-1).

“More than anything, I’m a little let down we couldn’t slow them down a little bit,” Peck said of the Storm.

Skyview had 144 yards and three touchdowns on its first five plays of the game.

The big play on offense was a picturesque pass from McDonagh to Russell to make it 21-0. The ball traveled probably 55 yards in the air for the 75-yarder.

“I didn’t think he was going to throw it to me because it took so long,” Russell said. “Once he threw it, I just kept on running.”

Russell didn’t have to break stride, nor reach for the ball. It just landed in his hands.

“Couldn’t have been any better. It was perfect.”

Kind of like the whole night for the Skyview Storm.
