Filing for drainage district seats begins Monday

Starting Monday, the Clark County elections department will accept candidate applications for three local elected bodies: Drainage District No. 2, Drainage Improvement District No. 5 and Diking Improvement District No. 14.

Elections for each of the three-member commissions will take place in February. If only one candidate applies for any of the open spots, that person will automatically win the seat, with no election held.

Candidates must have been a registered voter in Washington for at least 30 days to be eligible for the seats, and must own property within the district they’re filing for. Any corporation or partnership within one of the districts may also appoint a representative to either vote or run for the office on their behalf.

The filing period begins at 8 a.m. Monday and lasts until 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9. Applications will be accepted by the county elections department at 1408 Franklin St. in Vancouver.

Additional information, including the boundaries of each district, is available through the elections department at 360-397-2345.
