Talking Points

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

What exactly are the Indianapolis Colts thinking? At 0-11, they are just a few losses away from ensuring themselves the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft and nabbing highly-coveted Andrew Luck of Stanford.

But Tuesday, they go ahead and fire defensive coordinator Larry Coyer and replace quarterback Curtis Painter with Dan Orlovsky.

Are they nuts? The Rams are still sitting at 2-9 and can easily drop five straight.

And watch out for the Vikings, who are also 2-9 and have limitless losing potential.

If Indianapolis isn’t careful, it might just win a couple of games.

Talk about a major loss.

By the way, is Peyton Manning now in the discussion for greatest quarterback of all time?

He has a ring. Went to another Super Bowl. Has won four MVP awards. And his absence his triggered one of the greatest drop-offs in the history of team sports.

With Manning in the lineup, the Cols were perpetual Super Bowl contenders and all but guarantees to make the playoffs. Without him, they’re on the verge of becoming just the second 0-16 team to ever play in the NFL. Remember, football is a team sport in which at least 22 men are involved in the victory process — and that’s not including special teams. But for one person to have that much control over a team’s success? What can you say?

Peyton’s the Man-ning.
