Officials on Wednesday weren’t ready to release the name of the woman who died in the Washougal apartment fire on Tuesday afternoon.

An employee at the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday said the office wasn’t ready to release the woman’s identity at this time.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire at the Towne Square Apartments at 2900 H St. around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Crews arrived and found flames coming out of the upper story windows. The fire was contained, but firefighters found the body in the second story of the apartments.

Keri McDowell, a friend of the victim’s family, said the body was Marriah Buhman, 28. An official said the apartment was rented by Marriah Buhman, but said the victim’s name would not be revealed officially until after an autopsy.

The Columbian will release the name when it is available.
