A special Thanksgiving for the Papermakers

As many of us will be enjoying spending time with our husbands, wives, children and grandchildren on Thursday, members of the Camas High School football team will be gathering with the people who many of the boys have described as their “second” family — their teammates.

For the first time in school history, the Papermakers will be making an appearance in the Tacoma Dome on Friday at the State Semifinals. This accomplishment is the result of months of hard work by the athletes and coaches, as well as dedication from fans and parents.

A decade ago, this kind of accomplishment would have seemed unattainable. But with committed coaches, athletes and administrators, this program has come a long way in a relatively short period of time. As detailed in an article in today’s Post-Record, the improvements have been steady — three consecutive league titles beginning in 2005, and finally last year the team’s first state playoff game win.

This season, the Papermakers have convincingly defeated nearly every competitor that crossed their path, and they are now reaping the rewards of their effort.

So on Thanksgiving Day, the members of the Camas High School Papermaker football team will forego some of their holiday meal time to log some practice time on the field, preparing for what lies ahead. It’s a pretty good guess, that they won’t mind one bit.
