Postal inspectors offer $10K reward for details on Camas mail theft

Prune Hill area targeted between Saturday, Monday

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for theft of mail from community boxes in the Prune Hill area of Camas.

The thefts occurred between 9 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Monday, according to an inspection service bulletin.

People should contact the postal inspection service if they witnessed the crime; have information about it; or witnessed suspicious persons or activity near neighborhood boxes.

Persons also are asked to call if they witness crime involving mail or experience fraud related to mail theft.

Information can be reported to postal inspectors by calling 1-877-876-2455 and choosing option 2.

The service asks people who witness a crime related to mail to note the physical appearance of the individuals and any related vehicles.

If anyone had uncollected mail in boxes when a box was broken into, they should fill out a complaint in person at the Camas Post Office or call the postal inspection service at 1-877-876-2455, option 3.

Mail theft is a federal crime. Offenders may be sentenced to up to five years in prison, fined or both.
