Glenwood — Three local churches teamed on Nov. 4 to stage a concert to benefit the Winter Hospitality Overflow, a homegrown response to winter homelessness.
Praise groups from Salmon Creek United Methodist Church, Lake Shore Community Church and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church — which was the site of the concert, on 119th Street in Glenwood — sang and made music during the event.
Organizer Nancy Deibert said that the all-donations concert collected $9,429.39, which was presented to WHO coordinator Kevin Hiebert at a Salmon Creek Kiwanis meeting.
WHO is an effort of thousands of volunteers and two churches — St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Orchards and St. Paul Lutheran Church in downtown Vancouver — that open their floors to people who can’t find regular shelter beds when the weather gets harsh.
The annual program launched on Nov. 1 and was immediately filled to capacity.
