Battle Ground — Sometimes it really does pay to enter random drawings.

That was the case for Colin Newing, who won $25,000 for touring a Northwest Energy Star Home and giving his opinion during the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance Welcome Home campaign.

His name was picked at random from more than 1,000 entries.

When Newing heard about the contest, he decided to tour all of the model homes and enter, he said.

Newing said he was surprised when he got the call that he had won.

“It came at a perfect time,” he said, “as we are in the process of planning for full retirement and our move from California to Washington.”

Newing and his wife have been living part of the year in each state for two years. The prize will help the couple purchase a New Tradition Home in Clark County.
