3A volleyball: Prairie, Camas clinch state tournament berths

Hudson's Bay, Columbia River still alive at bi-district

The Prairie volleyball reached the semifinals of the 3A West-Central bi-district tournament at Auburn with a quarterfinal victory over Enumclaw and earned a berth to the state tournament. Scores were 25-17, 26-24, 25-22.

Prairie will face Timberline of Lacey in the semifinals at noon Saturday. The championship and third-place matches are at 3:30 p.m.

Johna McEllrath had nine kills, two blocks and four digs against Enumclaw, and Nikita DeMare, Carissa Campbell and Jessica McDonald each had eight kills.

Camas clinches 3A state berth — The Papermakers won both their matches at the 3A West-Central tournament to clinch a spot to state.

Camas defeated Bonney Lake 25-8, 25-17, 32-30, and Capital 18-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-18.

Next is a semifinal match at noon Saturday against Auburn Mountainview.

Hudson’s Bay splits — The Eagles need two wins today to reach the 3A state tournament after going 1-1 at the West-Central tournament.

Hudson’s Bay won its first-round match over Kennedy of Burien in five games, and then lost to Auburn Mountainview in the quarterfinal, 3-0.

Bay plays Wilson of Tacoma in a loser-out match at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Columbia River falls — The Chieftains dropped their first-round match at the West-Central, losing to Timberline in four games.

River must now win twice to reach state. River will play Capital of Olympia at 10 a.m. Saturday.
