Yacolt residents and leaders broke ground Wednesday afternoon on what officials called the town’s answer to ABC’s popular reality show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
Jim and Ruth Linderman, who have each lived in Yacolt 25 years, lived in a trailer that suffered from dry rot and various other maladies. However, with the help of their church, community and a local business they will soon have a new home.
The Yacolt Foursquare Church, where the Lindermans are members, has worked to help the family raise the $50,000 needed to complete the project at 204 N. Parcel Ave. Town residents gathered at the site Wednesday for a groundbreaking ceremony.
Hayden Homes, a Pacific Northwest homebuilding company, donated plans for an 840-square-foot cottage.
Jim and Ruth Linderman married in 1997. Jim is a retired maintenance repair man who is in his early 80s. Ruth is a church volunteer who is in her late 70s.
Cash donations can be made to the Yacolt branch of U.S. Bank. You can also call the Yacolt Foursquare Church at 687-2154 for more information.
