Salmon Creek — Conor McLean, a 2007 Skyview High School graduate, has been elected president of the Associated Students of the University of Washington for the 2011-12 academic year.

McLean has been involved in student leadership on campus since his freshman year. He hopes to be an advocate for students to the administration of the college as well as the state during hard financial times. He said he believes that without a strong student presence and voice in Olympia, the Legislature will further cut funding and continue the trend of privatizing higher education in Washington.

McLean will graduate in 2012.
