Hudson’s Bay — Thanks to the Allergan Foundation, the Washington State School for the Blind won’t have to cancel this year’s Beginning Computer Programming Camp. When the school faced the possibility of canceling the camp, they approached the Allergan Foundation, which awarded the school a grant for $10,861 — the entire amount needed to cover the costs. Computer programming is a highly visual task, with programming tools designed almost exclusively for sighted users. Also, computer curricula at schools for the blind are nearly nonexistent. The camp offers students the opportunity to explore the possibility of entering into computing programs and the software engineering profession.
