Candidate filing week is quickly approaching, and several local political seats will be up for re-election.
Filing week is Monday, June 6 through Friday, June 10. The primary election will be held Tuesday, Aug. 16. The top two candidates in each race will move on to the Tuesday, Nov. 8 General Election.
The filing fee is 1 percent of the office’s annual salary. Positions that receive no salary have no required filing fee. Positions on the Camas and Washougal City Councils have a one-year residency requirement.
Camas City Council members earn $6,000 per year, while the Camas mayor earns $15,600; Washougal City Council members earn $6,000 annually, and Port of C-W commissioners earn $4,200 per year. All school board positions are volunteer, and earn no compensation.
Camas Mayor Paul Dennis, whose second term in office expires at the end of the year, said Monday that he plans to resign from the City Council on an as-of-yet undermined date in the near future. Dennis was chosen to serve as the new economic development director of the Camas-Washougal Economic Development Association.
Meanwhile, Camas council members Tim Hazen (Ward 1), Linda Dietzman (Ward 2), Greg Anderson (Ward 3), and Don Chaney (At-Large) all indicated that they plan to run for re-election to their positions.
On the Washougal City Council, Rod Morris (Position 2) Michael Delavar (Position 4), Jennifer McDaniel (Position 5), and Molly Coston (Position 7) have all said they will run for re-election.
Washougal resident Joyce Lindsay has filed with the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission regarding her intentions to run for one of the open seats on the City Council. She has not announced publicly which position she will seek.
Only one position on the three-member Port of Camas-Washougal Commission is up for re-election. Bill Ward, who holds the district 2 seat, said last week that he is undecided about whether he will run for a second term. His campaign manager, Roger Daniels, said Monday that Ward is “leaning toward” seeking another term in office.
Other local seats up for re-election this year include: From the Camas School District, District No. 3 currently held by Connie Hennessey, District No. 4 held by Doug Quinn, and District No. 5 currently held by Mary Tipton; Washougal School District, District No. 1 Terrie Hutchins, District No. 2 Elaine Pfeifer, and District No. 4 Jim Gadberry.
Quinn and Hennessey said they plan on filing for re-election, while Tipton is undecided.
Hutchins and Gadberry were appointed to the Washougal School Board in February.
Hutchins said she plans on seeking election, while Gadberry indicated that he is undecided. Pfeifer said she also plans to run.
