Esther Short — Ruth Watson, the director of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District from 1967 to 1987, recently got a peek at the new main library on C Street.

Alongside the current library executive director, Bruce Ziegman, Watson toured the building, which will open to the public in July.

Watson, a Northwest native, is one of four directors the library district has had since its inception in 1950. One legacy of her 20-year tenure was developing the library as a social gathering place.

Watson was thrilled and proud of the fact that the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District has a new building. She will be an honored guest at the grand opening of the new library July 17.
