Battle Ground — Prairie High School Air Force Junior ROTC cadets finished first in two events at the Northwest Drill and Rifle Conference Championships in Tacoma on April 16.
Chris Contrell took first in the precision air rifle competition, scoring 286 of a possible 300 points. Each competitor demonstrated marksmanship in three positions: standing, prone and kneeling.
Prairie cadets were also first in the armed drill team event, which involves inspection, knowledge of military and U. S. history and execution of several maneuvers involving the handling of rifles. Members of the team are Jason Camp, commander, Wade Alfson, Thomas Butler, Alec Camp, Carter Camp, Trenton Cassity, Alex Costa, Nathan Gubala, James McKnight, William McKnight, Esteban Ramos and Spencer Watson.
Camp and Ramos finished second in the armed duals event, and Camp was third in the armed commander competition.
The Prairie ROTC program is directed by Col. Peter Gray and Master Sgt. Randy Martin.
