Northwest — Craig Johnson climbed a ladder, entered through a window and opened the garage door of a house in the Northwest Neighborhood. It wasn’t something he generally did on his way home from school, and he wasn’t doing anything illegal. On the contrary, the teen was a hero in disguise to two of his neighbors.

Here’s how it all began. Around 3:30 p.m. on a recent afternoon, a woman went behind her house to dump some compost. Somehow, the deadbolt managed to lock, and she couldn’t get back in. She yelled inside to her 88-year-old mother to open the door. When her mother tried, she slipped, fell and couldn’t get up. The woman said her mother didn’t break any bones in the fall, but was sore later. They felt that Johnson should be recognized for his help.
