Hazel Dell — The Churches in Partnership food bank garden at the county’s Heritage Farm on Northeast 78th Street received a blessing June 12. Pastors from St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Camas and Cascades Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church and Columbia Presbyterian Church in Vancouver all bestowed their blessings on the soil that will be worked by volunteers and supply the Clark County Food Bank.
Irrigation is being installed. Squash and potatoes have been planted and onions, corn and turnips will be planted later. Donations of tomato cages are welcome.
Work periods for volunteers are 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and all are welcome; wear your gardening clothes and bring tools.
Last year, the volunteer effort at the Heritage Farm produced nearly 19,000 pounds of food; this year the goal is 25 percent more.
