CPR challenge produces 92 potential lifesavers

Salmon Creek — When Clark County Fire District 6 put out the challenge, 92 people responded. The quest? To see how many community members could be trained in CPR in a single evening. The training, held at Salmon Creek Elementary School on May 19, was in hands-only CPR. It did not include rescue breathing. Dawn Johnson, public information officer for Fire District 6, said people hesitate to begin CPR because they are uncomfortable giving mouth-to-mouth. Hands-only takes away the stigma and still saves lives, she said. In an survey that followed the training, 86 percent of the participants said they are confident in their ability to perform hands-only CPR.
