The recent completion of the $38 million downtown library is something the city can be proud of; it will help promote library use in the younger generation, and promote green living. The project is a great step forward for the Vancouver community.
While the old library was a great resource, it was lost among those who grew up in the Internet age. Kids could no longer be excited at the prospects of a trip to the library, and the new space will help bring that excitement back. As the young children are our future, it is important to keep them interested in learning, and the library is now a great way to do that.
The new library also promotes another message that is welcome here in the Pacific Northwest: green building. Green design was used throughout the entire building, and it should become LEED certified.
As a new downtown centerpiece, it is great to see the city being environmentally friendly.
