Meadow Homes — “I think I want to be a soccer player now,” decided 7-year-old Ayden Urban after he romped around the emerald grass of Jeld-Wen Field in Portland for an hour. It’s an amazing statement coming from a kid who was never expected to walk.

The Arc of Southwest Washington, a nonprofit agency that works with disabled people, brought 50 of its kids to the home of the Portland Timbers on June 29 thanks to a visit arranged by Eric Sawyer of Vancouver firm BBSI Preferred Payroll, which works with the Timbers and the Arc. The kids ran drills, took penalty kicks and posed for photos with mascot Timber Joey. Cookies, gift bags and free soccer balls were part of the deal, too.
