SALMON CREEK — How much does a nurse make? Does lab work at a hospital look anything like it does on TV? What’s the toughest case you’ve had? Questions about working in medicine filled a conference room at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center as about 20 Fort Vancouver High School seniors met in small groups with five health professionals on Jan. 13. Using a “speed dating” model, small groups of students spent 15 minutes at each of five stations during a 90-minute session, allowing them individual attention and conversation with professionals. Representing Legacy were: Dr. Melissa Goebel, a specialist in palliative care and hospice care; Tammy Jones, manager of the pediatric unit and neonatal intensive care unit; Nichy Lee, manager of laboratory services; Lisa Lyons, pediatric rehabilitation manager; and Sherri Wood, Emergency Department manager.
