SALMON CREEK — Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center’s cancer services received a significant donation from Fred Meyer customers and employees in February. The money was raised through change dropped into coin boxes at check stands in all seven Fred Meyer stores throughout Clark County during the fall of 2010.

In addition, Fred Meyer employees in Clark County chose to combine their donations to the Fred Meyer Fund — Fred Meyer’s corporate foundation — with the coin box donations.

Salmon Creek Hospital Foundation accepted the $10,260.63 from Fred Meyer. The hospital’s cancer services programs serve more than 3,600 people annually. Funds will be used to offer free mammograms and to purchase cancer education materials and equipment to better serve patients.

“This is truly neighbors helping neighbors,” said Diane Buelt, director of clinical and support services at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. “We thank Fred Meyer customers and employees here in Clark County for giving so generously. This donation allows us to expand the reach of our services to those most in need.”

Fred Meyer has had coin boxes at its check stands for more than 10 years helping organizations in the Pacific Northwest meet the needs of their communities.
