OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The U.S. Census Bureau says that the top major metropolitan cities in Washington saw significant population growth in the last decade.
Census figures released Wednesday show that Vancouver’s population grew by nearly 13 percent, Bellevue grew by about 12 percent and Seattle saw a jump of 8 percent. Tacoma’s growth was the lowest among major cites at 2.5 percent.
Of the five largest counties, Clark County topped the list with a population spike of 23 percent to about 425,000 people. King County remains the largest with 1.9 million people, followed by Pierce, which saw a 13.5 percent jump in its population to 795,000.
Overall, Washington’s population jumped by more than 14 percent, gaining the state another seat in Congress.
