LINCOLN — A federal stimulus program aimed at stemming the rising tide of foreclosures has delivered 0.92 of an acre at 1027 W. 39th St., into the hands of nonprofit agency Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, which will build a new home there. The property is valued at approximately $72,000, according to county records. The land was purchased by the Vancouver Housing Authority using a Neighborhood Stabilization Grant from the city of Vancouver. On Feb. 16, VHA donated the property to EHFH.

“Evergreen Habitat for Humanity is valued as one of our many community partners in addressing affordable housing needs,” said VHA Executive Director Roy Johnson.

Habitat Executive Director Kristina Aitchison said her agency is finishing up its long-running Patten Park multihome project in the Five Corners area, and welcomes this additional land for a new home site.

Habitat for Humanity homes are sold at no profit and a zero-percent mortgage to families who have contributed required “sweat equity” hours.
