NORTH SALMON CREEK — The Vancouver Big Band hosted special guests Aaron Meyer, a rock violinist, and guitarist Tim Ellis at a concert at Skyview High School on Feb. 12. They performed everything from originals to Beatles classics. Then, singer Shirley Nanette joined the band for a round of jazz standards. The band includes music teachers from throughout Clark County’s school districts who are “working with your kids and grandkids every day,” according to band leader Douglas Peebles — and have collaborated, at one time or another, with stars from Tony Bennett to Gladys Knight to BB King to Bette Midler. The concert, attended by more than 600 people, was sponsored by and raised funds for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. To learn more about VSO, visit http://vancouversymphony.org.
