CAMAS — Seventy-seven years ago, Lila Robertson was an outstanding student who received a Citation for Meritorious Service in 1934 from Camas High School. But for reasons left unsaid, she never received her high school diploma. At a recent school board meeting, 94-year-old Lila Robertson Trammell was awarded an honorary diploma from Camas High.

She married and had a family after school. After living and working in Idaho and Oregon, Robertson returned to Camas in 1969. She served on the city council from 1971-1979.

Roxanne Jones, her niece, said, “She was hard-headed, honest, and respected. And she didn’t take any guff from the men on the council.”

School Board member Doug Quinn said, “Lila was an incredible advocate for her neighborhood. She was a clear thinker and very focused on her community.”

She has been a volunteer at the Vancouver Veterans’ Hospital Barns Medical Center for many years. At the board meeting, Superintendent Mike Nerland showed the audience the citation from 1934 and Board President Connie Hennessey and Nerland bestowed the honorary diploma to Robertson.
