COOK — Construction of the wheelchair-accessible fishing ramp at Drano Lake in Skamania County is expected to begin on Tuesday.
The Yakama Indian Nation Fish, Wildlife and Law and Order Committee granted the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service permission to move two tribal scaffolds built in late May on the construction site.
Speros Doulos, manager of the four federal fish hatcheries in the Columbia Gorge, said a boom truck from Spring Creek National Fish Hatchery was used Wednesday to move the platforms off to the side of an area known as “Social Security Beach.”
The service is building a ramp about 250 feet long and four feet wide. The ramp will be near the water’s edge with a curb stop to prevent wheelchairs from entering the lake. A 120-square-foot paved landing area at the water’s edge will provide a spot to net fish.
