Woodland — Officers from the Woodland, Kalama and Ridgefield police departments and the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office participated in the first Shop With a Cop event at the Woodland Walmart on Dec. 17. The program matches children from low-income families with a police officer to shop for Christmas gifts. It also gives children friendly exposure to law enforcement. About a dozen officers accompanied around 30 kids this year. The event was funded by Walmart, General Mills and some of the officers. Each child had $100 to spend. During the shopping trip, some people who were shopping at the same time also made donations to the cause.
