Central Park — In 2010, diesel technology students at Clark College in Vancouver formed a student club, the Diesel Dogs. The purpose of the club is to give students additional learning opportunities and to participate in community service projects.

The club, with around 25 members, has partnered with the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Adopt-a-Highway program to clean a two-mile section of state Highway 14 every term. The group also helps Camas’ Nutter Corp. in the spring with Dozer Day, a heavy-equipment fair for kids.

Club members are concerned the diesel program at Clark will become a victim of upcoming vocational budget cuts at the college. “Many students and instructors are invested into this program and into this club,” said Jesseca Clark, a diesel technology student. “It would be a sad loss in the community if the pending program cuts go into effect.”
