Steven Roberts of Vancouver is one of four junior curlers from Portland’s Evergreen Curling Club who will travel to Seattle’s Granite Curling Club for a series of matches Dec. 29-31.
Roberts, who curls from a wheelchair, will be joined by teammates Jesse Jimerson, Casey Morley, and Robbie Goldie from Portland.
During competition, Roberts will practice a unique technique of delivering his curling stones to their target 126 feet across the ice.
Roberts’ developed the new method of delivery. Local curling clubs are studying the new delivery and might apply to national international governing bodies for the sport to have Roberts’ delivery approved for international competition, according to ECC spokesman Arnie Iwanick.

Hangover 5K on Sunday
Clark County Running Club will hold its traditional New Year’s Day Hangover Run at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The 5-kilometer run starts at Fifth Street and Fort Vancouver Way. It circles the Fort Vancouver barracks.
Cost is $2. As usual, the run is free for members of the CCRC. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.

Bowling results posted
Jon Pound and Vickie Wallace teamed to win the doubles title in the 40th Clark County Mixed Bowling Championship.
Pound and Wallace combined for a handicap-adjusted score of 1,541 pins to win the competition, which was held over several weekends at Allen’s Crosley Lanes.
The team title went to the Miller Lite Crew (Donalee Miller, Marice Miller, Sandy Hansley, Jerry Hensley) with a score of 2,980 (including a 912 handicap).
A list of the top finishers in the tournament is in the Community Sports Scoreboard. The tournament was staged by the Clark County United States Bowling Congress chapter.
