Talking Points: Something for everyone on Christmas

Merry NBA Day every one, and a Happy NFL Night. Oh, and have a great Christmas, too.

The NBA tips off with five games Sunday. All on national TV, thankfully, one after the other. The NFL will have a game Sunday evening, as well.

There are those who believe the day should be without sports.

We say the day should be celebrated any way you want, and if there is the option of NFL or NBA, that’s fine for those who enjoy such things.

If getting together with family and friends while watching a favorite team or a favorite sport is for you, then great.

For those who disagree with games on the holiday, that’s fine. And if there were enough of you, those games would not exist. (If no one watched the games on Christmas Day, the games would not be scheduled on Christmas Day.)

But let’s not blame the leagues for taking advantage of a public that demands entertainment 365 days a year. There is a reason most movie theaters are open on Christmas, too.

That’s become a family tradition for many, as well.

Church, family, presents, movies, and/or sports.

We’re a big country. We can handle a little bit of everything.

OK, let me get this straight.

They are shoes, right? Shoes!

The new Air Jordans which caused mini-riots at various locations throughout America.

Just shoes, right!

They don’t make you lose 50 pounds in 50 days?

They don’t cure the common cold?

They won’t even make you be like Mike?

OK, thanks. Then I’ll wait until, say, Tuesday to get my pair. No need to kill anyone for those things.
