Clark County firms challenged to help homeless

Beginning in 2009, employees of Holland Partner Group have donated unused vacation time so homeless families would have a place to live for six months.

The effort was dubbed the Holland Homeless Challenge because part of the plan was challenging other local companies to do the same.

Now the challenge is on again. Employees of Holland Partner Group, a property management and development firm headquartered in Vancouver, are returning paid, unused time off to the company to subsidize homeless housing — and asking other companies to pitch in, too. If you can donate the money, Holland Partner Group can find the space.

The Council for the Homeless and HopeLift, a new charitable arm of Holland Partner Group, will be interviewing, selecting and placing families on an ongoing basis. HopeLift’s Janet Dodd said the goal is for two families per month to get housing for six months to a year, depending on funding and other case-by-case factors.

Applicants must be employed or pursuing employment, able to pay $150 per month, pass drug and criminal background tests and agree to take personal finance and life-skills classes.

To learn more about HopeLift and the Holland Homeless Challenge, contact Dodd at 360-334-1698, or David Moore at the Council for the Homeless, 360-699-5106 ext. 104.

Holland Partner Group is not related to Burgerville corporate owner The Holland Inc., which is also based in Vancouver.
