I want to grow Red Delicious apples. Do I need to wait until spring to plant some?

Check garden centers and catalogs now to order fruit trees for late winter or early spring planting. Be sure to search out types that will ripen in western Washington’s cool summer climate. Apples such as Red or Yellow Delicious and Granny Smith will not produce good fruit here in Southwest Washington. There is just not enough sunny hot weather west of the Cascade Mountains to ripen these varieties. Make sure you are planting recommended varieties for your region.
