A Washington Soccer Academy team recently won a significant tournament in Las Vegas.
The WSA Juventus boys under-17 team did not give up a goal in going 5-0 to win its division at the Las Vegas Thanksgiving Classic, played Nov. 25-27. The tournament featured top teams from around the Western United States that applied for consideration for this competition.
Head coach Victor Garcette said the standout play of his team’s defense and of goalkeeper Colin Partee were keys to the successful three-day run in Las Vegas. In the five matches, Juventus outscored the competition 14-0.
The WSA is the advanced-competition club affiliated with Camas-Washougal Soccer Club.
Playing for Juventus in the tournament were: Chris Hall, Collin Wong, Carter Johnson, Alex Osier, Matt Rose, Partee, Tim Teipel, Calvin Goon, Houston Taie, Jake McAllister, Josiah Pacheco, Zach Pizot, Chris Graser, Miles Jordan, Sam Pizot, Zach Perron, and Tristen Payne. Garcette was assisted by coaches Javier Caceres and Jorge Pacheco.
Highlighting the tournament for Juventus were a pair of wins against a Universal Soccer Club from Southern California. WSA defeated Universal 3-0 in group play and 2-0 in the tournament semifinals, a game played under the lights in front of a spirited audience, according to coach Garcette.
