Hockinson — Hockinson High School freshman Courtney Carlisle won honors in October at this year’s WordMasters Challenge, a vocabulary, analogy and analytical reading competition. Carlisle, who only made two mistakes, placed among the 228 highest-scoring ninth graders in the country. More than 54,000 students entered the meet. During the challenge, Carlisle had to analyze an essay by Robert Lipsyte. The students will participate in three more WordMasters meets this year. Awards will be given in May to contestants who improve the most throughout the year.
