Parker Henry

Season highlights

Rushed for 2,191 yards and 31 touchdowns. He was the only Class 4A running back to break the 2,000-yard mark this season.

Voted the 4A GSHL’s offensive player of the year and also was a first-team, all-league linebacker.

Our favorite Parker Henry game: Bellarmine Prep had taken a 17-14 lead over the Storm in the quarterfinals. Then Henry took over, rushing for 233 yards and four touchdowns.

More about Parker

Favorite athlete: Walter Payton. “For what he personified. Hard work. Humble. Team first. Everything you want to be as a teammate and a football player.”

Trailing by 31 points in the final minute of the Class 4A state championship game, Skyview running back Parker Henry got one final carry in his high school career.

Hit initially about three yards from scrimmage, he would not go down easily. He dragged two or three defenders for three more yards.

And that’s another Skyview … first down.

The result of the play meant nothing to the game. But it sure said something about Parker Henry.

Henry, The Columbian’s All-Region football player of the year, never gave up, never stopped working, never counted himself out. He endured a sports hernia for the past seven weeks of the season. He had turf toe. An ankle got messed up, too.

But he kept running, even when he could barely walk.

“Senior year. I didn’t want to let my teammates down or myself. It came down to a pain thing,” he said, noting his doctor said he could play as long as he could withstand the pain. “It’s a good test for yourself. Mind over matter. Mostly, I didn’t want to let my team down, really.”

The final game did not go the way he and the Storm wanted, but his final season was nearly perfect. Henry rushed for 2,191 yards and 31 touchdowns, leading the Storm to the championship game.

After those final six yards, it took him some time to get up off the field. He was spent. But with no regrets.

“I wanted to finish it out, behind my O-line for one last time,” Henry said. “It was kind of cool to end it that way, I guess.”

His body now needs a rest, and some repair. He expects to have surgery soon on that sports hernia. But he won’t rest for long.

“Once I get better, start working out again and get ready to play some college ball,” he said.

No offers yet, but he has heard from the Air Force Academy, Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Montana, to name a few. All that will take care of itself, he said.

For now, though, he just wants to celebrate Skyview football.

“We’ve done something that no other Skyview team ever did, which is pretty cool,” Henry said. “I’m just really thinking of all my teammates and all the relationships I built and how awesome it was the last four years.”
