18th District lawmakers hold telephone town hall

State Reps. Ed Orcutt and Ann Rivers invite 18th District constituents to participate in a telephone town hall meeting at 6:25 p.m. Wednesday.

“I always look forward to thoughtful input from my constituents,” said Orcutt, R-Kalama. “I know that citizens from Southwest Washington are not always able to make it up to Olympia to meet with us, so this is a way to help them to communicate with their elected officials. With the budget and tax issues before us during the special session, I trust people will be more than willing to share their thoughts and ideas.”

The call-in radio-style event lasts one hour. Call 1-877-229-8493 and enter passcode 15498 to participate.

The Legislature convened Nov. 28 in a 30-day special session to begin the process of deciding how to reduce about $2 billion in spending. Proposed cuts are heavy on human services, public education and public safety. A 60-day regular session is set to start Jan. 9.

“This is an opportunity for everyone to come together to discuss the economy, budget and other issues impacting our communities. While we wish we could host a traditional town hall meeting, this is a convenient alternative given the special session,” said Rivers, R-La Center. “We look forward to answering questions and exchanging ideas.”
